9. Carefully grasp the adapter by the top edge or upper corner and move the

adapter directly from the static-protective package to the adapter slot. Align the

adapter with the expansion slot guides; then, press the adapter firmly into the

expansion slot.

Attention:

Make sure that the adapter is correctly seated in the expansion

slot before you turn on the computer. Incomplete installation of an adapter

might damage the system board or the adapter.

10. Rotate the rear adapter-retention bracket to the closed (locked) position.

11. Connect required cables to the adapter. Route cables so that they do not block

the flow of air from the fans. If you are installing an optional SCSI adapter, see

"Cabling an optional SCSI adapter" on page 48 for additional information.

12. If you have another adapter to install, repeat steps 5 through 11.

13. Press down on the top tab of the front adapter-retention bracket to lock it in

place (the tab is inside the fan compartment that is next to the front

adapter-retention bracket).

Note: If any adapter in the computer is large or has heavy cables attached to

it, you can secure the adapter with a screw. Insert one backup

expansion-slot screw through the top of each adapter bracket into the

screw hole and secure the adapter before proceeding to the next step.

14. If you have other options to install, do so now; otherwise, replace the internal

drive-bay bracket (see "Replacing the internal drive-bay bracket" on page 65).

Replace the side cover (see "Replacing the side cover" on page 67).

Reconnect the external cables and power cords, and turn on the computer.
